Do you have a friend or fellow artist that you trust to critique your work? It's a great thing! :)  I drew out a tree on a piece of spoon handle...this piece has the potential to be fabulous, but the tree that I drew just isn't right...I wasn't sure what it was, but I knew I didn't like it! I took the piece with me to the Hoover Shelby Art Association meeting today. At the end of the meeting, I showed it to Carol Weston (a wonderfully talented Artist and Art teacher in the greater Birmingham area)...I said, "I'm going to redraw the tree, I'm just not happy with it", and Carol replied, 'Yes, it's too scrunchy'! Hah! That's it! The tree is definitely too scrunchy and Carol wasn't afraid to tell me so and I was happy to hear it! So, a critique from a trusted friend/peer can be a good thing! Hah! Now, I'm off to remove my 'scrunchy' tree and replace it with one that is truly beautiful! ;)

  1. Actually Barbara, a constructive critique from anyone regarding our art should always be welcomed by one; note that I said 'constructive'. For you folks choosing to give a 'mean' or 'cruel' critique, these come from your own insecurities so please keep your mouth closed and your fingers stilled.

  2. Thank you; you are right! However, some would never say anything at all...I'm glad Carol felt the freedom to 'pitch in'! She is always praising my work and it helped to hear her voice just what it was about the tree that was unappealing! :)

  3. Hi! Now I am discovering you in the blogosphere...wonderful...I love these things you are doing with hammered spoon silver...do you recall trading some earrings to me at the Hammer show, for one of my coyote pups? I gave them as a gift to Kathy!
